Background:

Terry has been involved with horses since early childhood and spent many summer months with his Grandparents on their farm. He purchased his first horse shortly after being discharged from the U. S. Army in 1966. Terry struggled with his horsemanship for years by using a lot of misinformation that had been given to him by well meaning people

In the early 80's Terry began to seek out people who seemed to get along with their horse and started to study the ways they were using. In the mid 80's Terry began to attend clinics and study video tapes and books from everyone he could manage to see. He began with some John Lyons Symposiums and then studied with Pat Parelli's Corral structure. Terry became a Parelli Corral leader for 4 years. He attended clinics as an auditor or rider, with Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, Bryan Nuebert, Larry Mahan, Craig Cameron, Dave Seay, Clinton Anderson, Lyn Palm, Martha and R. E. Josey, Barbara Schulte, Don West and Gawani Pony Boy.

Terry was an instructor for various courses for the Bureau of Prisons during a 21 year career with that agency. He has attended several courses on public speaking and teaching through his former employment. Terry has taken his retirement and his wife Dollene has taken an early retirement from the public school system to devote their time to training horses and people to form a relationship that will benefit the horse and rider.

   Philosophy:

Terry's philosophy is that everyone would like to have a willing partnership with their horse and every horse would like to have a willing partnership with their rider. Terry believes in the positive method of teaching, We need to reward the human as well as the horse for the smallest change and the smallest try. Terry tries to find that place where the horse and the human are both at in their horsemanship and start to work from there.  Having struggled through learning with people who are critical of the human and who are not aware of how things, that are easy for the teacher, are not always so simple for the student has made Terry aware of the benefits of the positive approach. Terry believes that each person’s horse is as valuable to them as any racehorse or performance horse no matter the cost.
